Founder & Director
Dr. Benard Theora is the founder and owner of New Hope New Life Healing Center, a rehabilitation center located in Mai Mahiu town in Nakuru County, Kenya. Guided by a lifelong commitment to service, restoration, and community transformation, Dr. Theora established the center to help individuals and families find healing, hope, and a renewed path forward.
Dr. Theora’s professional journey reflects a unique blend of economic development, research leadership, entrepreneurship, and Christian counseling. He earned his first degree in Economics and began his career as an economist and planner with the Department of Livestock Development in the Government of Kenya. His early work in public service laid the foundation for a career focused on practical solutions, sustainable development, and the well-being of communities.
After one year in government service, Dr. Theora received a scholarship to further his education in the United States. He attended the University of Arizona, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. Upon returning to Kenya, he resumed his role as an economist and planner before later attending Harvard University for a certificate course in program management, appraisal, and evaluation.
Counselling Psychologist & Founder, Yakini Counselling Services
MA Counselling Psychology • BA Sociology and Philosophy
I'm a mental health advocate with years of experience in one-on-one counselling and in educating on the psychosocial issues affecting our society today — substance and drug addiction, stress management, loss and grief, depression and anxiety, among others.
“Facing your truth candidly sets you free, and carries you to your next, better level of life.”
Self-awareness is a powerful tool for self-mastery. It lets a person take charge of their life and act on knowledge rather than on automatic reactions carried over from past experiences and trauma. At Yakini Counselling Services, every client is treated with the utmost care, and guided through psychological interventions that help them uncover truths hidden in their past — clearing the blocks standing in the way of their own progress.
I work with individuals and in group settings, offering guidance that empowers people to make informed decisions about their lives. In 2020, as mental health struggles surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, I launched free online education sessions on mental health awareness — practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, and emotional challenges that reached hundreds and inspired many to seek further support.
